Having awarded six scholarships, the KSF is trying to raise enough money this year to award five more scholarships in 2005 to deserving Russian students in the Republic of Karelia.

A KSF scholarship pays for the student's entire five-year education in his or her chosen field of study at the university, either through general donation fund or through a direct sponsorship. Scholarship winners are expected to maintain a strong academic record, and their grades are checked each semester to ensure that they are doing so.

To ensure that even students from the poorest areas of the Republic have an opportunity to attend a university, special attention is paid to those students who apply from the outlying, rural areas, where the schools tend to be less sophisticated and have fewer resources than those in Petrozavodsk.
